Founded in 1905 as the Petawawa Military Camp, or Camp Petawawa. Today the Canadian Forces Base Petawawa, is commonly referred to as CFB Petawawa located in Petawawa, Ontario. The base is located in the Ottawa Valley in Renfrew County, 170 kilometers (106 mi) northwest of Ottawa along the western bank of the Ottawa River. Its main gate is adjacent to the town of Petawawa, near the city of Pembroke. The majority of the base territory is in the municipality of Laurentian Hills, with portions also in Petawawa and Deep River.
