Area Information
Grand Valley was initially settled in 1855 when the George Joyce family built a log house, a barn and later a tavern. In 1860 the first post office was established with resident Sam Stuckey as the first postmaster. That same year, the first Municipal Council was also created. By 1869 the village had grown to fifteen residents and nine buildings and in 1870 the first store had opened.
Some of the early settlers had to walk at least 10 miles to receive or send mail until they got a post office at Keldon in 1884, and a little later in Colbeck, Monticello, Peepabun, Tarbert and Leggatt. The first gravel road was constructed in 1874. The Town of Grand Valley is a township composed of the former Township of East Luther and the former Village of Grand Valley. Brampton is a 50 km drive away. Town of Grand Valley
