Area Information
Location: On Hwy 6 about halfway between the QEW and Hwy 401 in Flamborough and since 21 part of the city of Hamilton Ontario.
The community is named after its founder, Patrick Freel, who in 1840 built a hotel on the site. Before regional government changed boundaries, Freelton was at the junction of the townships of East Flamborough, West Flamborough, and Beverly.
European settlement in our area can be dated as far back as the late 18th century (1780s), while European contact (French Explorers) goes back to the 1600s. There is evidence of First Nations settlements dating back to over 5000 BC. Comp.
