Area information. Chesterville is a community in the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry United Counties. It is located along the South Nation River. A very well known and well to do member of this village was on the R.M.S. Titanic when it went down, some 90 years ago. The Allison family consisting of, Hudson J Allison age 30, his wife Bess Waldo age 25 and there daughter Loraine age of 3 years were lost at sea on that night. A son, Hudson Trevor survived that night with the aid of his nanny. Nestle closed its plant on June 30, 2006 and put over 300 people out of work. Guess how the town feels? Take a close look at the newly added word on the tank, top right picture.
The village was named after Chester T. Casselman, a telegraph operator in the area who eventually became the postmaster. In 1890, Chesterville was incorporated as a village. Compilation |
