Area Information
Brechin is a community in the former Township of Mara in Ontario County. Due to reorganization of the municipal structure, since 1994 it is located in the municipality or Township of Ramara in Simcoe County.
Township of Mara. North Mara was largely settled
by Highlanders from the Western Islands of Scotland and from Glengarry in Eastern Ontario. The majority of the settlers were Roman
Catholics. The Township of Mara and Rama
were united until 1869. The first settler was Patrick
Corrigan, 1823. By 1839 the population was 112
