Area Information
Blind River is a town on the Trans-Canada Highway and located in the Algoma District. Established in 1906, Blind River is an outdoor recreation hotspot on Lake Huron's North Channel at the mouth of the Blind River and the Mighty Mississauga River. The logging industry developed because of the easy accessibility to those two rivers. In 1906 Blind River was incorporated as a town. In 1955 Uranium was discovered near Blind River. The first Uranium mine began operation as the Pronto mine in Algoma Mills. In 1983 a Uranium refinery was built just west of Blind River. This uranium refinery is owned and operated by the Cameco Corporation which processes uranium concentrates from all over the world into uranium trioxide. Town of Blind River
