More tower information. In Niall Mackay's book 'Over the hills to Georgian Bay', on page 18, he states that "In 1894 Mr. Stafford offered the O.A. & P. S. the right of way across his property....and when constructed it was 90 feet nearer to Mr. Stafford's buildings. They also erected a water tank at his back door." This tower is most likely the only remaining wooden water tower in Ontario. The Canadian National Railway (CNR) line ran from Ottawa to Depot Harbour. |

Area information. Barry's Bay is a community in the township of Madawaska Valley, Ontario, located two hours west of Ottawa. The railway station and water tower, were originally built in the 1890s and restored nearly 100 years later. In 1933, the village of Barry’s Bay was incorporated under by-law 1184 of the County of Renfrew out of 520 acres of the Township of Sherwood. |
