The History of the Christian Fish Symbol

The Village of Waskatenau is located approximately approximately 100 km's northeast of Edmonton. Our location provides direct paved access North to Fort McMurray, the Athabasca Tar Sands Development and East to the Cold Lake Military Air Base.
- Waskatenau is named after a Cree word meaning "opening in the bank". The Village came into existence in 1919 after the railway came through the area. The district's first post office, Pine Creek, was opened in 1907.
- In 1932 Waskatenau was incorporated into a village with a population of 200.
