All 3 towers are surge tanks, connected to pipelines carrying water from headponds to generating units. Picture # 1 These surge tanks are connected to two separate pipelines. One pipe comes from the Sandy Lake dam/headpond and feeds 2 generators in the Mill Lake Plant. The other pipeline comes from the Coon Pond dam/headpond and feeds another 2 generators in the Mill Lake plant. All water that passes through the Sandy and Mill Lake units flows to the Tidewater Plant via the next headpond /dam / pipeline, where it powers 2 larger generators. Picture #2 is the surge tank for the Tidewater Plant pipeline. This plant is lower on the river, so to speak than the two towers shown in picture #2. These 2 plants/ 6 generators make up the St Margarets Bay Hydro System. Area information: St. Margarets Bay is a bay located on the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia. The bay's shores are mostly rocky, although the head of the bay offers several sandy beaches at Queensland, Black Point and Cleveland. A well known community on the Eastern Shore of the bay is Peggys Cove which is one of the busiest tourist attractions in Nova Scotia. |
