BATHTUB / SHOWER COMBO DOORS
The prevent the water from splashing all over the bathroom you need a shower curtain or tub enclosure with sliding glass doors fastened to the front tub ledge. I never have been a great supporter for tub enclosures. Not only do they make a small bathroom look even smaller, they also, sooner or later, are bound to leak which could lead to structural damage and expensive repairs.
CUSTOM MADE SHOWER DOORS
A standard sized shower way not be feasible when renovating your home but if you go online you will find local companies who specialize in custom made showers and shower doors.
TIP
A clear glass shower door will make a small bathroom look bigger than it is. The same goes for full size showers as well as for bathtub/showers.
The more floor and/or ceiling is visible, the bigger the room looks. |

2 Panel shower sliding doors. Pivot sliding shower doors. Frame and frameless shower doors
Choosing the right shower door is important. It is the most prominent part of any shower and the shower door should be in harmony with other metal objects in the bathroom such as faucet and towel bars.
There are still many people who use a shower curtain to keep the water inside the shower area but a growing number of people feel that shower doors do a better job and are a great alternative to shower curtains.
There are plenty of shower door styles and models available. Just go online and contact a local supplier or visit a nearby home builders centre.
DOOR STYLES
There are basically two door styles
- Swinging (pivot) shower doors are usually used for small to medium sized showers. They can be "hinged" either left or right to provide easy access. A clear glass shower door will make a small bathroom look bigger than it is.
- 2 Panel sliding or by-pass doors are ideal for mid to full size showers. You can also choose between framed and frameless doors.
DOOR MATERIAL
The doors are made of clear glass, Plexiglas or tempered glass. Shower doors can come in many different hardware finishes and glass patterns that can match other bathroom hardware such as faucets and shower heads.
