Duct cleaning. Furnace filters. Electronic air cleaners.

Duct cleaning
The indoor air quality can be improved by duct cleaning. Clean ducts will have a positive effect on your health and also improve the efficiency and life span of your heating and cooling equipment.
A thorough job takes 2 to 2 1/2 hours. It includes turning off the gas and cleaning the burner compartment, heat exchanger, evaporator coil of the air conditioner, electronic air cleaner and humidifier. The blower fan will be removed and cleaned as well. When done, all one-inch holes are plugged and sealed with white or black coloured soft-plastic plugs, see illustration lower left.
Furnace filters
Furnace filter help reduce airborne particles in your home. There is a wide variety of furnace filters available, from disposable to washable and reusable filters. Some clean the air to protect just the furnace while other also will improve the air quality for healthy living.
Filters should be cleaned or replaced monthly to ensure maximum protection.

Electronic air cleaners
The four filters should be cleaned monthly. There are different ways of doing this but I prefer this method:

There are two pre-filters and two main filters
WARNING. Do NOT clean the filters in the laundry tub if the tub is not properly supported and secured to the wall.

1- Rinse with cold water.
2- Place the four filters in laundry tub, add a generous amount of dishwasher detergent.
3- Fill tub till filters are submerged and let soak for a few hours.
4- Rinse and let filters drip dry before turning the unit on again.

Dirty or missing filters will shorten the life span of your heating and cooling equipment.
