Independent and self contained AC units.

Homes that are heated with hot water or electricity do not have a duct system for heat distribution.
Often an independent cooling system, complete with ductwork, can be installed in the attic space.
This system is ideal for bungalows and smaller two story homes. To prevent over-cooling the thermostat should be installed on the highest level.
Feasibility and choice of equipment should be discussed with a qualified heating/cooling contractor. Installation costs start at approximately three to four times the cost of adding central air conditioning to a forced air heating system. Two of the available options are:
Independent evaporator unit. In this system, the blower, evaporator coil and filter are installed in the attic, as illustrated, and are connected with pipes to an outdoor compressor-condenser unit.
Self contained air conditioning unit. In this system, the blower, evaporator coil, filter, compressor and condenser are located outside the house.
